Grocery Diary - November 2010 Menu

On this page, you will find a list of all of the food that my family of six ate during the month of November, 2010.

  • B - refers to my husband
  • C - refers to my daughter (age 8/in school full time)
  • M - refers to my son (age 6/in school full time)
  • R - refers to my son (age 4/in school 1/2 day)
  • D - refers to my son (age 10 months)

If I have posted a recipe for a dish I've made, I'll also post the link to it. This page coincides with our Grocery Diary and is a part of our experiment to get our food bill down under $400 for the entire month. The page will begin with November 1st and end with November 30th, so scroll down to see the most recent entries. Our children eat breakfast at school every day, and the older two (C & M) eat lunch at school most days. Our son, R, who is in Pre-Kindergarten is released from school before lunch, so he eats at home. If they eat a meal at school, I'll just say that. I won't list what they ate. If they take a lunch to school, however, I will list what they brought. Also, the baby (D) is breastfed but I'm not going to record each time he nurses!

November 1st For breakfast, C and M ate breakfast at school. My husband (B) had two frozen waffles topped with Nutella and I had a bowl of cereal. We both had coffee. The baby had jarred bananas. B had the day off work, so we went to Taco Bell for lunch. Oops. After school, the kids snacked on some store brand cheese crackers and throughout the afternoon, the baby snacked on some baby snacks. (When I say baby snacks, I'm referring to foods like Gerber Graduates Yogurt Melts, Lil Crunchies, Biter Biscuits, etc etc.) He eats these pretty much every day, so I'm not going to record it each time he does so. For dinner, we had Chicken & Brown Rice Soup, mini saltine crackers and milk. After dinner, the kids snacked on bananas and tomatoes.

November 2nd For breakfast, school kids ate at school. My husband and I both ate the same thing we ate yesterday. The baby isn't feeling well and he went down for a nap after nursing. Hubby packed a peanut butter sandwich, a peach and bottled water for lunch. C brought lunch to school - a peanut butter sandwich, an apple, carrots/ranch dressing and water. M ate the school lunch. The two boys and I had leftover Chicken & Brown Rice Soup and crackers for lunch. We drank water! After school, the kids had different types of crackers for a snack. For dinner, we had pinto beans, baked potatoes with shredded Parmesan and milk.

November 3rd Breakfast - my husband had the Nutella waffles and coffee again. The kids had breakfast at school as usual. I've just had coffee so far and the baby went down for his nap after nursing again. Husband packed the same lunch he had yesterday. Today, C will eat lunch at school, but M got a Pizza Hut certificate for a free personal pan pizza so I'm going to pick it up and bring it to him at lunch today. The other boys and I had leftovers from dinner yesterday for lunch. For an afternoon snack, Ryan had a bowl of cereal. For dinner, I made a healthier version of Carbonara. We drank water. We ate dinner early, so later in the evening the kids were still hungry. M and C had graham crackers. C made a sandwich with turkey and relish. Later, she and R both ate another piece of sandwich meat.

November 4th For breakfast, B had a waffle and coffee at home. When he got to work, they were having a meeting and he ate a little there. I had an apple, some graham crackers and coffee for breakfast. C, M and R had breakfast at school as usual. D had baby bananas and oatmeal. For lunch, B took a peanut butter sandwich, an apple and water for lunch. C ate lunch at school. R had a peanut butter sandwich and a bowl of cereal for lunch. I had leftover Carbonara and D had jarred carrots and chicken. After school, the kids ate popcorn. We ate dinner early, so the kids snacked a lot that evening. C and M each had two bananas. C and R each had a turkey sandwich. C had 2 Roma tomatoes and R had one. R and C also had some graham crackers.

M, C and R each had a kiwi and some diced cheese also. I had a banana, which I shared with D. For an afternoon snack, we ate some tortilla chips and ranch dip while watching a movie. On Sundays, a local coffee shop serves free food. We usually get food from there so that I have a day off from cooking. Today it was shredded beef sandwiches, spaghetti, chips and cookies. Before bed, C ate a tomato.

I also ate a banana after dinner.

November 19 The kids had breakfast and lunch at school. D had a YoBaby yogurt. B had cereal and coffee. I just drank coffee. Again. For lunch B packed a peanut butter sandwich like usual.
