Hanging Up The Laundry To Save Money.

I often hang up as much of our laundry as possible to dry outside in an effort to save money. It really does help to get our electric bill down a bit, as well as reduce some wear and tear on items. I don't recommend hanging up clothing in the sun however, as it can fade items. I have my clothes lines up under my patio, so the sun can't get to my clothes. Here, I am going to tell you my method for hanging clothes to dry; the way that allows me to save the most time and fit the most clothing on my lines. First, I only hang items such as towels, sheets, blankets, and shirts on the line. Towels, sheets, and blankets can be hung up quickly, and it doesn't take long for them to dry. I hang them up a few inches apart. Then, I wash a load of shirts and fluff them in the dryer for a couple of minutes. This helps them to dry without wrinkles. I go ahead and put them on hangers and hang a few between the blankets, towels, etc. Below is a picture of my clothes hung on our line outside.

This method lets more air flow around my items and they dry quickly. Also, I don't waste any time, because I would be putting shirts on hangers anyway. I dry shorts and pants in the dryer because it is very time consuming to hang them all up and I don't like the feel of stiff denim. I also wash and dry our socks and underwear with the shorts/pants because I don't want my neighborhood seeing those! To make the whole chore of hanging up laundry a little more enjoyable, I listen to the radio we have outside. (See picture below).

Why am I showing you a picture of my radio on the patio? Well, because I'm talking about saving money of course! I would like to point out that the radio is an old one, it no longer plays tapes or CDs (the radio works) and someone gave it to us. Also, someone gave us the table. I enjoy the music just as much as I would if I had a brand new radio on a $100 table, plus I love knowing that I didn't spend any money on it. The table could be a little more attractive, but I plan on fixing that with a can of spray paint very soon. I would also like to mention that hanging up the laundry gives the kids a chance to get outside for a little while. In the Texas heat, we can't play outside for very long anyway. I hope my method helps you, and if you have any other ideas that you use, feel free to tell me about it! sarah@homejobsformom.com
