Snowmen Movie Review

As a homeschooling family, we were selected to view a sneak peak of the movie Snowmen, which is opening in select theaters on October 21, 2011. This movie is rated PG. (If you are a homeschooling family and are interested in being a product tester for Homeschool.com, please visit this page for more information.)

At first I was a bit apprehensive because I feel that many movies that claim to be "family friendly" turn out to have inappropriate innuendos and the stray "light" four letter word. I really didn't see any of that in this movie, and it was appreciated. My next concern was that it would be cheesy, but again, I was pleasantly surprised. There are a few actors in Snowmen that I recognized from other movies or television shows.

Here is the little blurb from the producers about the movie: "SNOWMEN is a humorous and heartfelt coming-of-age story about three unlikely heroes and the winter that changed their lives forever. After a surprising discovery in the snow catapults three small-town boys into the spotlight, the best friends hatch a plan to be remembered forever by setting a Guinness World RecordsŪ title. Along the way, the trio battles schoolyard bullies, unites their community and discovers that - while fame may be fleeting - true friendship lasts forever."

The movie touched on a few issues that affect children, including bullying, childhood illness, lying and more. It also very briefly touched on what is required to go to heaven, but they didn't elaborate much on that. I felt like it was just enough that it might prompt curious children to ask their parents for more information on the subject. I laughed many times, but also found myself tearing up as well. The movie was very touching. We need more family movies like this one. It was a nice, clean story that dealt with some real life problems. I found that I enjoyed Snowmen very much, and it seemed that my children did as well. I definitely recommend this movie to anyone with children. It is a good family movie, in my opinion!

Following are my children's reviews of the movie Snowmen:

Clare, Age 9 "It was sad. It made me feel happy and sad at the same time. I really liked it when they were trying to set the world record. The end of the movie was the best part."

Matthew, Age 7"I liked the movie."

Ryan, Age 5"It was sad. It made me feel sad. I was happy at the end."

The kids had a lot more to say, but I don't want to ruin the movie for you!
