How to Fight Fatigue While Working at Home
A common misconception is that working at home is easier than going to an office every day. In fact, this is not the case for many people. It is easier to get distracted when working from home. Some people feel lonely, while others battle others problems, like fatigue. There are many methods we can use to battle fatigue when working from home.
Watch what you eat! It is important to avoid simple carbohydrates. Blood sugar levels will spike when you consume sugary and processed foods like soda, chips, chocolate and white bread. When you eat these foods, your body releases insulin. This insulin will make you feed tired. To combat fatigue, replace these unhealthy foods with complex carbohydrates like whole grains. Try granola bars, oatmeal, whole grain bagels and whole wheat bread. The complex carbohydrates break down slowly, helping you feel more energized all day.
Maintain a healthy weight. Carrying extra weight on your frame will weigh you down and make you tired. If you need to lose weight, don�t do it by skipping meals or exercising too much. Eat the complex carbohydrates, protein and fresh produce in small meals every few hours instead of eating large meals. Get moving! Try to work some light exercise into your routine every day. A walk, jog or bike ride are all good options. If you have some extra money, try a local gym or exercise class.
Get some sunshine and take breaks during the work hours. When it�s time for a break, head outside for some fresh air. If you have time, take a quick walk around the block to get your blood moving. If you don�t have that much time, do some stretches. Keeping the body moving helps the oxygen move through your veins and muscles. This will make you feel more energized. If you don�t have time to take a break, at least stand up from your chair, look away from your computer screen for at least 30 seconds and do a few simple stretches.
Stay hydrated. Even mild dehydration will cause fatigue. Keep a glass or bottle of water on your desk at all times so that you will be more likely to drink it. The increased visits to the restroom will help you get out of your chair to take small breaks from your computer screen.
Get plenty of sleep. For most people, our bodies need at least 8 hours of sleep a night to feel rested and refreshed the next day. Some people can get by on less, and some need more. Figure out how much sleep your body needs, and get to bed around the same time each night to make that happen.
Try aromatherapy. Some people are helped a great deal by aromatherapy. Some naturopaths feel that jasmine and peppermint are energizing scents. Try scented soaps, lotions or candles made with these scents. Alternatively, sprinkle a handkerchief with a few drops of essential oils and keep it handy so you can give it a quick sniff throughout the day.
