Time Management Skills

I did good this morning; I was only 30 minutes late for work. I had to wash up some dishes. It was really nice to not have to worry about doing them later or doing them really quickly so I could run out the door to go to work. The one problem that I have with working from home is that you have to have discipline. When working at home, it's easy to think about all of the things that need to be done around the house because they are staring you in the face all day long. And the children (if you have them) are begging for your attention. I can't wait for the time that I have set aside to do something fun with my kids this afternoon. We are planning on taking a walk down to the river to find some nice flat rocks, then we are going to take them home and paint them. That is, if there is any paint left from the couch-painting episode!

I have a terrible habit of constantly feeling guilty that I'm behind on everything. For some reason I think that I have to be some kind of super woman and get it ALL done every day. I have noticed that many woman feel this way. Since when do we have to work all day, take care of the kids, do laundry, dishes, mop the floors, cook 3 healthy meals and 2 snacks (on average) every day? Not to mention set aside time for our significant other (if we have one) after everything else is said and done and the kids are nestled snug in their beds with freshly clean sheets in a clean bedroom? Most Dads I know don't think this way. They go to work all day, come home and relax for a while. They might mow the yard, or fix something that is broken. Then they play with the kids because they missed them all day, and then probably watch some TV. They don't care if there are a few toys on the floor just as long as the house isn't FILTHY. Why can't I stop and smell the roses instead of the Pine-Sol? Why do I constantly feel driven to fill the washer and dryer with clothes instead of feeling the need to fill my sweet children's heads with memories of childhood days spent with Mommy? Why do I think I have to be so darn perfect? Maybe it's a result of the feminist movement and women shouting that we can not only do "wifely" things but we can do the things men to do...all at the same time?!?! I really can't tell you why I feel this way, all I know is it is there, and I know I'm not alone! I am really going to start setting aside some of the things that I think I "have" to do around the house and do special things with my children. When they grow up, I want them to remember me as something more than a maid and a cook. If you have any special activities that you enjoy doing with your children I would love to hear about them. I'm not talking things like going to the zoo or a children's museum. I want to hear about simpler things that you can do anytime and doesn't cost much money, if any. I will post any suggestions here in my blog so that others may be able to benefit as well!
